Reusing Bags

I ran across this link on Twitter this evening:

An Inconvenient Bag

The green giveaway of the moment -- the reusable shopping bag -- is a case study in how tricky it is to make products environmentally friendly.

I recently re-started making an effort to use mine. Even when I don't have one with me, many times there's no need for a bag, and I just carry the item. I hate it when I buy one item and they reach for the bag automatically!

We only have one supermarket where I live and they gave everyone in our community green shopping bags a couple of years ago - 80% still use these when they shop - and if you forget them they offer boxes instead (you have to ask for plastic!)..

They also ran competitions of who could decorate/paint the best calico bag so we got the kids involved and aware of the issues too .. And it really helped spread the word that we want to make our town as environmentally friendly and waste free as possible ..
